I'm an unabashedly geeky girl who has always tried to capture the spirit of a bygone era. I believe in beauty, passion and the mysterious. I have peace at times, but there is always an undercurrent of unrest - it is my nature. I see and experience things intensely - however it took years to realize that it is a gift and not a curse to feel so strongly.
I adore moments of solitude when I can daydream and let my imagination run rampant. Nature, children’s stories, faerie tales, historical costumes and the people who wore them are sources of creative inspiration for me. Like opening a door in my mind, they inspire and compel me to create a fusion of art, history, and fantasy.
My love of sewing began at an early age. Since I was a small child, I have experimented, laboured, and endured. I revered the complexity of textiles, of mastering them, and of transforming them. My passions became altered fashion, theatrical costume, wearable art, couture bridal wear and fashion accessories.
In my current work, I try to bestow memory, historical influence, and imagination into my work. I craft intuitively, absorbed in the process, and compelled to find the link between both craft and design. My desire is to add beauty and mystery to a world that has lost some of its propriety, wonder and innocence. I hope an audience will view my work with curiosity, recognizing my need and desire to revisit the past and that each piece will become a vestige of former elegance, the real and the imaginary coalesced.
